Professional Hopes and Goals

One hope that you have when you think about working with children and families who come from diverse backgrounds (any format and any length)

When I think about working with children and families who come from diverse backgrounds, I hope to continue to show genuinley respect to them. Everyone should feel welcome and valued. I will do my personal best to help children and the staff to understand and welcome all children. Everyone deserve the opportunity to strive and learn. Modifications and accommodation may have to occur to help students become successful. Families may need additional resources to help themselves and their family. Will continue to stand up for all children and families and ensure we give them equal support. Utilizing the language, clothing, photos, traditions or anything else in the environment will help the child and family feel welcome. Overall, I will ensure everyone is comfortable, respected and valued.

One goal you would like to set for the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice (any format and any length)

One goal I would like to set for the early childhood field is becoming a advocate for children and families in regards to diversity, equity and social justice. Diversity should be explored and evident in the classroom on a everyday basis. I sometimes come across Early Childhood Centers who would admit that they need to embrace diversity. As my sister-n-law mentions, "Diversity include race, class, gender, religion and sexual orientation.
Culture includes all of the knowledge, beliefs, habits, laws, traditions, and family way of life that are sp
ecific to one group of people or one society. Groups of people living away from other groups develop different ways of doing things and approaching life".

A brief note of thanks to your colleagues

In closing, I would like to thank all my colleagues for your generous comments and insights. Everyone shared their own experience in the light of the issue, how they felt, handled it, or what they would have done. I wish everyone a successful future as you continue your journey
